Event Description

Turkey and yams and stuffing oh my! Work off that Thanksgiving Day meal (and the leftovers) with us on this moderate 5 mile hike. The fresh air and up and down hills will keep you healthy and strong. And the Young Professionals who will be hiking by your side will keep you entertained. Afterwards we will venture out for a light lunch and warm drinks with new friends who were made along the way.

Specs:
The hike is classified as moderate.
The total length of the hike will be approx. 5 miles long and we will walk at an easy pace.
This hike is good for beginners that are ok with climbing moderate uphill and downhill.
The hike should take about 2.5 hours.
As with all hikes you must be in reasonable athletic shape.

Sweeper:
If the group size is larger than 10, we are going to look for a volunteer to act as a sweeper. Sweepers will walk at the end of the hike line and will make sure the group stays together.

Hike Leader:
David will be leading this hike.
David will not be waiting for late people. In fairness to those who arrive on time, the hike will start on time.

What to bring:
Hiking boots are required.
Please bring 2 liters of water as well (yes, it is just as easy to dehydrate in the cold).
Please dress in layers that are not made out of cotton. Cotton, when wet, does not dry and can make you feel much colder.
Consider bringing a snack as well if you may get hungry while hiking.

Inclement Weather:
Heavy rain will cancel this hike; light rain may not. Also, the forecasted high for the day will have to be above 39 degrees and no standing snow cover on the ground. Please check your inbox for updates and the NJYP.org calendar. Tickets will be refunded.

Directions:
Take GSP South or North to exit 117. After the toll booth, keep left onto RT 36 South. Follow RT 36 South for about 12 miles. Make a right at the sign that says “Red Bank Scenic Road”. You will also see a sign next to it that says “Mt Mitchell Scenic Overlook”. Once you make that right, you will make another immediate right onto Navesink Rd. You will see the parking lot on the left after about 0.5 miles.
