Event Description

Are you experiencing cabin fever? Are you dying to get out but don’t want to the only one out there? Well, you are not alone! Join fellow NJYPers and get those legs moving! We will meet up in the parking lot of the Hartshorne woods and enjoy a relaxing day on the trail. We will then meet up for lunch at a nearby place.

Specs:
The hike is classified as moderate.
The total length of the hike will be approx. 5 miles long and we will walk at an easy pace.
This hike is good for beginners that are ok with climbing moderate uphill and downhill.
The hike should take about 2.5 hours.
As with all hikes you must be in reasonable athletic shape.

Member Cost:
$5 for the first 10 to buy a ticket
$10 for the next 11-25 to buy a ticket
$20 at the door (so please register online)

Non-Member Cost:
$20 online and at the door

Tickets:
There are a limited number of Tickets for sale.
Tickets are not mailed, but your name will be kept at the door.
Actual hike is subject to change depending on weather conditions, fallen trees, etc.
All sales are final.

Sweeper:
If the group size is larger than 10, we are going to look for a volunteer to act as a sweeper. Sweepers will walk at the end of the hike line and will make sure the group stays together.

Hike Leader:
David will be leading this hike.
David will not be waiting for late people. In fairness to those who arrive on time, the hike will start on time.

What to bring:
Hiking boots are required. Please bring 2 liters of water as well (yes, it is just as easy to dehydrate in the cold). Please dress in layers that are not made out of cotton. Cotton, when wet, does not dry and can make you feel much colder. Synthetic fiber outdoor wear is always ideal in all weather conditions and all seasons. Consider bringing a snack as well as you may get hungry while hiking.

Inclement Weather:
Precipitation (rain or snow) will cancel this hike. Also, the forecasted high for the day will have to be above 39 degrees and no standing snow cover on the ground. Please check your inbox for updates and the NJYP.org calendar. Tickets will be refunded.

Directions:
Take GSP South or North to exit 117. After the toll booth, keep left onto RT 36 South. Follow RT 36 South for about 12 miles. Make a right at the sign that says “Red Bank Scenic Road”. You will also see a sign next to it that says “Mt Mitchell Scenic Overlook”. Once you make that right, you will make another immediate right onto Navesink Rd. You will see the parking lot on the left after about 0.5 miles.
