Event Description

Foiled again!  I'm seeing RAIN for Sat AM so we are going to move this hike. New date is TBD.

Grab your cameras and binoculars (if you have them) and join us for our yearly hike up to the Hawk Watch. Based on the migration schedule, we should be able to spot several different types of hawks, including the American Kestrel, Northern Harrier, Red-tailed Hawk, and the Golden Eagle. Gawk at the hawks!

Difficulty level is 2.5, http://www.njyp.org/page/hike-ratings
About 5.5 miles long.

The hike should take 3 hours.
As with all hikes you must be in good, athletic shape.

Member Cost:
$10 online
$20 at the door (so please register online)

 

Non-Member Cost:
$20 online and at the door

 

Tickets:
There are a limited number of Tickets for sale. Tickets are not mailed, but your name will be kept at the door. Actual hike is subject to change depending on weather conditions, fallen trees, etc. All sales are final.

 

Sweeper:
If the group is large we are going to look for 2 volunteers to act as sweepers. Sweepers will walk at the end of the hike line and will make sure the group stays together.

 

Hike Leader:
John will be leading this hike.

 

What to bring:
Hiking boots REQUIRED if there is snow.
2 Liters of Water (required).
Snacks, a light lunch, etc.
Toilet paper, tissues, plastic bags for garbage, etc.

 

Inclement Weather:
Most heavy precipitation will cancel this hike; drizzle/flurries may not. Please check your inbox for updates. Tickets will be refunded.

 

How to find the group:
Meet in the dirt parking lot right on Snake Den Rd.  It is a large area and immediately visible from the road so there is no mistaking it.  It will be on the right hand side as you are driving up Snake Den Rd.
Please arrive on time as we will not wait for latecomers.

Directions:
Take Interstate Route 80 to Exit 37 (Hibernia/Rockaway) and bear left at the end of the ramp. Continue north on Green Pond Road (County Route 513) for 6.5 miles and turn right onto Upper Hibernia Road. (If coming from the north, you can take Route 23 to Green Pond Road, head south for 3.7 miles, and turn left onto Upper Hibernia Road.) Follow Upper Hibernia Road for 2.5 miles to the end of the paved portion of the road. Continue ahead for a short distance on the gravel road for about 1000 feet until you see an open gravel parking area on the right.
