Event Description

Sometimes called the “Bermuda Triangle of New Jersey”, the Round Valley Reservoir was created in the 1960s and is the deepest body of water in New Jersey at 180 feet.  Surrounding the three-mile-long, two-mile-wide reservoir is the 1,288-acre Round Valley Recreation Area.  Join us as we ramble over a portion of the rugged Cushetunk Trail that encircles the reservoir.  We will meet in the South Parking Lot at the Cushetunk Trail trailhead before beginning our adventure.  After the hike the group may go out for drinks and a late lunch (always a great time).

We will hike 6 - 7 miles over a 4 hour period.

As with all hikes you must be in good, athletic shape.

If the group size is larger than 10,  we are going to look for a volunteer to act as a sweeper. Sweepers will walk at the end of the hike line and will make sure the group stays together.

Keira will be leading this hike.

What to bring:

Hiking boots and at least 2 liters of water (required).

We will stop for lunch/snack about half way through the hike so we recommend you bring something to eat.

We also recommend tissues, plastic bags for garbage, and similar items.

Inclement Weather:

Heavy precipitation will cancel this hike; drizzle will not. Please check your inbox for updates and the NJYP.org calendar. Tickets will be refunded.

Just a reminder that a passing shower will NOT cancel this hike.  Please still meet in the lot, on time.

If you're undecided for this hike - the forecast is looking like nice Round Valley weather! Partly sunny, not too warm and relatively low risk of a few raindrops!

This is a great hike for early spring, before the park gears up for the post-Memorial Day crowds!  Hope to see a bunch of you there!
