In the 1970's Sandy Hook was demilitarized and handed over to the National Park Service. "The once stately houses of Officers’ Row now look like a dilapidated ghost town.  The battlements of the old fort, now merely a labyrinth of concrete ruins, lie crumbling along the shoreline sand dune, bearing silent witness to a battle that was never fought here."*  Join us as gather for an easy hike past many of the historic ruins and INTO one of the bunkers. And as per tradition, the group will go out for local eats and conversation after the hike.

This hike is good for beginners who are in good athletic shape!

Sweeper:
If the group size is larger than 10, we are going to look for a volunteer to act as a sweeper. Sweepers will walk at the end of the hike line and will make sure the group stays together.

Hike Leader:
Maren will be leading this hike.
Maren will not be waiting for late people. In fairness to those who arrive on time, she will be starting the hike on time.

What to bring:
Hiking boots (recommended) and water (required).
Hiking boots will help keep the sand out of your feet when hiking as the trail is a mix of hard surface and sandy surface.
You may want to bring long pants due to some poison ivy close to the trail.
We will stop for a light lunch / snack at the picnic area so we recommend you bring something to eat.
