New Jersey Young Professionals

Get out. Make friends. Meet people in NJ.

Hello my name is Jen; I’m an art enthusiast & photography lover (in my own right), lol. Although I am in the technology/medical field working as a biomedical-clinical engineering equipment technician by way of being a former art history major @ RU, Douglass College – I like to spend my time learning photography. ANYHOW, the purpose of this forum is to get to meet others who share the same passion, have good pointers/tips to help me advance; or if you know any good websites/books & such that'll help me better my craft.

Also, by any chance if you are selling or know someone who is selling pre-owned/used (but in good condition) photography equipment that goes with or can be used with a Nikon D200 please feel free to contact me. Thanks!

Jen

I love photography. I do I do. Unfortunately I'm not experienced nor do I have any "secret" knowledge to share. I am actually hoping to get enrolled into a photography program somewhere, as it is my passion in life.

Good luck :)

I know William Paterson University has an excellent photography program or so I have heard from a few people I know. Or NYC has Photography schools. The Art Institute of Philadelphia is where I was planning on attending last fall until personal issues held me back from relocating down there.

I enjoy photography as well. I only know the basics but would be willing to learn more and become an even better photographer. Does anyone know of any classes or programs in photography?

i took b/w photography I and II and also color photography in college. It was really fun, but wasn't easy. the hardest part is using different tricks.

One of the easiest tricks i learned was the 'Rule of 3rds' shot. i dont know if you know that trick, but it gave me an A on one of my projects! :) all i did was took a picture of my dog walking on the grass but he wasnt in the center of the photo. he was at the top/right. The trick was to get the viewer to draw his attention there. thats what i learned.

are you developing your own film as well?

WPU has a decent program. I work with the photography department, have taught some seminars there and get interns from the photo dept. If your interested in digital, I wouldn't waste my time taking a college class. I majored in photography at MSU and use very little of what I learned in my photography business. If anyone is interested in learning more, I would be willing to put together a photography meet up. Let me know. My website is www.lamodastudio.com

I own and highly recommend this book - http://www.amazon.com/Digital-Photography-Book-Scott-Kelby/dp/03214...

Unique Photo on Rt 46W in Fairfield has many different classes, but I haven't gotten around to taking any yet. http://www.unique-university.com/e/index.php

I see all of you share a similiar interest in photography just like myself. Although, I only know some basics but I would like to get a better understanding some time soon (if time permits). I did however purchase some equipment, because I felt the best way to learn is through trial and error (point, adjust, shoot & try again -- plus read, study, and develope my craft). I live in Middlesex Co. and I want to enroll into a class or so at the county college (photography is a hobby that I hope to turn into something a little more).

BTW check out Nikon School (Online) ... http://www.nikonusa.com/Learn-And-Explore/Nikon-School/index.page

@Dave, thx for the link I will check that manual/book out.
@Kim, @Jennifer, & @Shamar, thx for sharing your interest.
and @Joe, I appreciate your response... BTW, GREAT website/work. Plz keep "us" posted on or with further updates.

Hi Jen, great to find this post! I am a Lifestyle and Wedding photographer and I also went to Rutgers. I would love to chat when you have time, a great book to read which is more about the business side is Fast Track Photographer and if you can attend Dane Sanders workshop, it is life changing, best advise I was given when I started was 1) take control of your camera, your camera needs to do what you want it to do and not what it wants to do and using it on manual took me 5 months to do, 2) find blogs of photographers you like and they always have tips for photographers,. I am also a nilon user, do not know much of the D200 though, upgrading to the D300 S, cheers

I love photography too. Depending on what you would like to know you can check out Unique Photo in Fairfield, NJ. They offer classes. I took a few classes there in the beginning of the year when I got my camera. It helped me learn the basics about my camera.
