Hi All,

I'm brand new to NJYP.  I currently live and work in NYC, but grew up in Bergen County and am planning on making the move back to NJ sometime in the spring. At this point I am thinking Morristown or Montclair.  A little about myself:  I am 34, single and work in finance.  I am looking for work in NJ.  I've lived in NYC for 11 years, had a blast, but i think i am ready to move on.  I still want a little downtown area, but key word is little.

Does anyone have pros/cons for either town?  Also, can anyone suggest apartments or how to find a good apartments.

Moving can be so stressful, so any help/advice will be much appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Lauren. I am 36 single working professional. I moved to Wayne NJ or I would look at Parsippany. Both are great towns before are right near 80,46,287 and to be honest I think there is more work in Morris county, Passaic near Wayne, or even down in Berkeley Heights off of 287. Very commuter friendly to those areas..Check out Parsippany. then I do think there is closer to the city. But, I remember from when I was a stock broker that Jersey City was called Wall Street West for a reason...Maybe look in North Bergen etc. But, for me..There is more work in Wayne, Parsippany, and Morristown area and its North Jersey which pays alot more than Central or South Jersey..Justa thought. -Michele. Anyway, please feel free to friend me on here. -Michele

Hi Lauren,

As an outsider knowing people that have moved to Morristown and knowing people that have dated people from Morristown I will say this:  people that live in Morristown never want to go anywhere else to hang out and then friendships/relationships fade.  I'm not sure what it is, but Morristown seems like a big black hole or the Bermuda Triangle of NJ!  lol  I'm sure it's a great town (I've been but have not lived there), but this is just my observation.

Montclair is closer to the GSP and TNPK than Morristown, and is also close to 80, 280 and 287.  If you're planning to continue working in the city, you may want to consider that Montclair is closer to NY and commuting costs may be a little less.  I otherwise don't know much about Montclair.

Good luck!!

Hi. I recently moved from Wayne to Montclair and was looking for a similar situation. I'd recommend Montclair- not because it's where I chose but because I find the accessibilty to New York easier and closer, the crowd/neighborhood slightly older and established and it is much more reasonably priced than Morristown. Feel free to reach out with any questions or if you do move to Montclair!

Thanks Gianna! I've been leaning towards Montclair because of it's proximity to NYC, but still figuring things out.  Do you live in an apartment complex or a private residence?  How did you find your apartment?  I've been looking and don't really know the best places to look.  Any advice would be great.  (feel free to message me).

Thanks!

Having lived in both Montclair and Morristown here is my opinion:  Montclair is a bit more of an artsy town filled with more mom and pop type businesses.  There is the type of small downtown you may be looking for, but there are a limited number of bars in Montclair, thus limiting the nightlife unless you are willing to drive 10-15 minutes to some other local towns.  There are plenty of different style restaurants in the area, although many are BYO.

The downtown area of Morristown has plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance from each other, and compared to Montclair I would say has a much more active nightlife.

I went to college in NY and love the city but here in Jersey I really like Montclair.....It's a small town but it offers nice bars, restaurants, shopping, it's close to GS Parkway, access to NYC via train quickly. I live in Newark and I'm actually looking for apartments in Montclair also.

I'm searching for apartments mostly online on craigslist but if I can't find anything in 2 weeks I'll probably sign up for this website below. It's $150 but it seems to have all the "better listings" in the area. If you don't mind spending the money, you can also use a broker. Hope this helps.

Sorry for the late response, but thanks for the feedback.  I will probably suck it up and sign up for that website, as well.  When are you planning on moving?

Hi Lauren:

I live in Montclair, am the same age as you, and also work in Finance!

I recommended a couple of places in Montclair to a friend of mine (who ended up moving to Millburn), but here were the links I sent her.

Good luck!  Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about the area!  Hope to be able to meet you sometime as well!

Does anyone know anything about Montclair Residences?  I've heard they are nice, but in a not so great neighborhood.  I was just wondering how bad the neighborhood is?  How about Bellclair?

Thanks!
