My mom Denise Stern Haviland was diagnosed with Stage 4 Bone, Lung and Brain Cancer in September 2013. These combinations of cancers are beyond the help of normal chemo treatment. She commutes to Johns Hopkins Hospital for extensive treatment. The bills keep pouring in. I personally have donated $6,000 thus far. My mom’s charity HOPE for DENISE. Even just a prayer or simply lighting a candle for her will mean so much to us.

On behalf of Denise and David Haviland:

Thank you and God Bless,

Likewise. This must be so hard for you Darren.  Keep being brave and asking for help!

I can't even begin to imagine how hard this must be for you and your family. Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time!

I can't imagine how you go about dealing with all that. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family.

Thank you everyone!! Here is some more details regarding my mom's condition.

This journey started when my mom discovered she had stage 3 lung Cancer. The next logical step was to have her lung removed. Here is where the rare part comes into play. DNA testing discovered that my mom has a very rare mutated gene. This gene does absolutely nothing to a healthy person but when it is exposed to cancer it acts like a performance enhancing drug and accelerated it throughout the body. Immediately turning it into stage 4 in her lungs. Then throughout her entire skeletal system which includes her spinal cord. Next, Cancerous tumors form throughout her body as well as her brain. The strong and very expensive medication she is on shrinks these tumors until they become harmless nodules. The flaw to this drug is it doesn't activate until the tumors are fully grown; meaning it will not prevent new ones from forming. One of her team of doctors referred this to a game of whack a mole; It knocks a few out and a few more pop up. Currently, several tumors have been successfully shrunk. She also goes for spinal infusions on a monthly basis since the Cancer is feeding on her bones. This process helps them from snapping. The doctors at John Hopkins are currently looking for a new treatment to help my mom if and when she becomes immune to her current treatments. Thanks again for all your prayers, love and support! Please let me know if you have any questions.

Praying for you and your family

Wishing that your mom kicks this cancer and gets better! Sending prayers to you and your family.  I heard of someone else from work with the same combination of cancers (although not sure if the same type of rare gene was present) diagnosed around the same time your mom was.  They actually responded well to treatment, including chemotherapy and are now beating the odds and doing better than expected.  I hope its the same way with your mom's condition.  Stay strong!

Hi everyone!

We are having the first fundraiser for my mom Oct 1st. I attached a file that includes the details. Please let me know if you have any questions.
