I know I tried doing this in the spring but the nice weather kept people from wanting to spend time indoors.  I figured that since it's officially autumn that I'd revisit this forum regarding any knitters/crotchers out there who might be interested in meeting up in November to share techniques over some coffee or drinks. Anyone interested?

Hi All,

I've been knitting on/off for about 2 years now, and I thought I'd see if anyone else in the group is into yarn arts.  I know I still consider myself a "beginner" knitter and am looking to improve my skills.

I know there are a couple yarn groups out there, but I would like to find/create one that is geared towards people in their 20s & 30s.  Perhaps we can make arrangements for NJYP people to get together somewhere locally to knit/crotchet, show off projects, and help each other out with patterns & techniques?

Suggestions for a public meeting place for the group in the Middlesex/Union County areas would be welcomed.

a weekday in march in montclair would work for me to.
i love to crochet and workingo n my first blanket
How do Saturday, March 13th or 20th work for everyone? Or Sunday, March 6th, 14th & 21st?

I was thinking of meeting at a coffee shop. I know there's one in Union (Van Gogh's Ear) that serves coffees, teas, and food.

There are also several local Starbuck's in Middlesex county that we could try (and I believe someone upthread mentioned having contacts at some of the SB in the area).

Or, if we do Sundays, what about meeting at "What's the Scoop" in Metuchen, where NJYP hosts its "Game Nights"? They serve pizza, ice cream and coffee. Parking in Metuchen is free on Sundays.
Hi Lena,
I've been interested in learning how to knit/crochet for sometime now. Would absolute newbies be welcome? I also live in Middlesex County (I can't tell by your pic but I think we might know each other). I know Pearl Arts & Crafts on route 1 closed so is there another store where we can get material? Joann near Rahway? Michaels? Meeting up on any Sunday would be great as that's my only day off from work. Metuchen would be fine.

Newbies would be more than welcome (I myself am still very new to knitting, and my projects have consisted only of knitting & purling--no yarnovers or SSKs or knots).....

As I mentioned before, Saturdays and Sunday for the most part work for me. Anyone else out there still interested in making it a date with fellow NJYPers to knit & crotchet? As I mentioned before, I think Metuchen or Union would be good places (unless someone has a better venue).

By the way, if there are any male knitters/crotcheters out there, you are also welcomed t o attend :) I know you're out there, even if you haven't posted in this forum yet.
I love Van Gogh's Ear, and would be more than happy to teach any true "newbies" out there either knit or crochet. Any of those weekends in March so far work for me.
Benita,

Thanks for letting me know Pearl closed, you're the first person who mentioned it to me. What a shame! It's where I had picked up some of my yarn in the past.

For yarn, I know that Joann's in Colonia has a decent selection of yarn. There's also "Knit a Bit," which is a cute yarn shop in downtown Westfield. Michael's Arts & Crafts also has yarn.

How does everyone feel about our first NJYP Yarn Crafters event on Sunday, March 14th at Van Gogh's Ear in Union, at 2 PM? This location seems to be middle ground for the people who have responded to this thread.

Please let me know if this date/time are viable.

Thanks.
That date works for me!!

sounds like a plan!
Hi Everyone,

Just wanted to have a "heads up" as to who to expect to see on Sunday at Van Gogh's Ear in Union. We're supposed to be meeting at 2PM to share our knitting/crocheting projects and techniques.
Anyone else "yay" or "nay" for Sunday?

Should we move it to next Sunday (the 21st) due to the monsoon weather that's expected this weekend?

If I don't hear back from anyone on the thread by Saturday evening (10 PM), I will cancel.
Hey Lena,
Next Sunday would probably be better due to the rain we have going here this weekend (plus my sister's coming tomorrow to belatedly celebrate our birthday since we can't celebrate it today).
