Makeda sounds good- I haven't been back in a decade, but I remember their chocolate cake was divine. I'm open as to dates, as long as they're not toward the end of July.
This is my kind of idea! Fantastic. I would definately be interested in going to Makeda. Please *do* count me in. =]
I would also be interested in Makeda on a Friday night, just let me know when :)
South Orange is closer to me, and so I would love to check this place out, too! I used to go to school in DC, which has *amazingly* good Ethiopian food, so I acquired a regular craving for this cuisine.

I'd also recommend Harrar Cafe in South Orange for Ethiopian. It doesn't have the cool live jazz like Makeda, but the prices are much more affordable and free parking is abundant too. I'm a big fan of various ethnic places and I've actually organized some culinary tours around NJ for friends so please keep me posted on these.
Great! Let's try Harrar Cafe in South Orange. Soo excited.

Does Fri., June 4th or Fri., June 11th work for everyone? Say...7 p.m.?

Thanks Rebecca for the suggestion.
hmm- Harrar sounds good- but it's way too far for me (especially on Friday with the traffic). :-( Well, if you guys ever want to do something in Central Jerz, let me know.

Hmm, after looking at the inventory which location is best for more people...Makeda (New Brunswick) or Harrar (South Orange)? I'm in the mid-point so either works for me. I wouldn't want you to be left out Salma, particularly if Anup can do New Brunswick.
thanks. :-) It's no problem- whatever works for the majority is cool.

I'd love to join and try Ethiopian food but since I live only 15 away from NB, I'd prefer Makeda.
Makeda would be fine, I love Ethiopian food. If it is on a Friday I would prefer 7:30pm at the earliest to get down there due to heavier traffic on Fridays and having to go home from work in Parsippany to western Morris County and then travel 45 minutes down to New Brunswick. June 11th would be better for me. If it was Saturday June 5th would work for me. I have my companies annual picnic on June 4th.
June 5th is the weekend of my college reunion- so I can't make it then. the 11th could work. If we do it on Saturday, there's more free parking around, though.
I like the idea of free parking. I don't really know much about downtown NB, I've really only been to the part near Rutgers.
