Hi everyone,

A great friend of my sister's told me about NJYP and she had me hooked on finding out more about this site.  I just joined 2 weeks ago.  Let me introduce myself.  My name is Carmela Urciuoli.  I am 27 and as you could guess from the last name I am Italian/Venezuelian.

I have lived in Passaic County all my life.  I was a teacher for 2 years before getting laid off because of Budget cuts.  So I am currently looking for a teaching position.  In the meantime just enjoying the summer going down to Wildwood with family and hanging out with good friends.

My first event was the Surfing event and i had a BLAST.  It was my first time ever learning to surf and i even came away with a battle wound but also came away with new friendships. I am looking forward to going to more events and meeting new people from all over NJ

Hi Kristen,
Thank you for the welcome. I live in Woodland Park(used to be West Paterson). So Verona is very close by. Yes with teaching i might just do substitute teaching to get my foot in the door yet again and see what happens.

Welcome Carmela! Where in Passaic County are you? I'm in Verona, so I'm pretty close. Sorry to hear about your layoff. I'm friends with some teachers and it seems to be the same worry for them as well. Also I love Wildwood and was there at the end of July. Urgh, can't believe summer is almost over.
Hi Carmela! Welcome! I am in education too and know what it is like. Best of luck!
Thank you Lynn. Best thing i can try and do is substitute teach and get my foot in the door that way

Hi Carmela, welcome to NJYP, sorry to hear about your job. My friend, who is also a teacher, was actually out of a full-time job for awhile. He did substitute teaching for awhile and short stints filling in for maternity-leave teachers. He just got a Full-time position in the Head-Start program that the Feds are funding, you may want to look into that (if that's your area of teaching that is).

Hope the rest of your summer goes well.
Hi Drew,
Thanks,. Some friends and family said thats the best thing to do right now is substitute teach. Best way to get my foot in the door. Right now just babysitting and enjoying the rest of my summer. Thank you for the information. I am def going to get into substituting. Enjoy the rest of your summer.
