Event Description

Grab your cameras and binoculars (if you have them) and join us for our yearly hike up to the Hawk Watch. Based on the migration schedule, we should be able to spot several different types of hawks, including the American Kestrel, Northern Harrier, Red-tailed Hawk, and the Golden Eagle. Young Professionals and Hawks, so happy together :)


Specs:
The hike is classified as easy to moderate and is about 2.4 miles long.
The hike should take 2 hours.
As with all hikes, you must be in good, athletic shape.

Register for Hike: Hawk Watch in Hibernia, NJ on Eventbrite

Member Cost:
$5 for the first 5 to buy a ticket
$10 for the next 6-25 to buy a ticket
$20 at the door (so please register online)

Non-Member Cost:
$20 online and at the door

Tickets:
There are a limited number of Tickets for sale.
Tickets are not mailed, but your name will be kept at the door.
Actual hike is subject to change depending on weather conditions, fallen trees, etc.
All sales are final.


Sweeper:
If the group size is larger than 10, we are going to look for a volunteer to act as a sweeper. Sweepers will walk at the end of the hike line and will make sure the group stays together.

Hike Leader:
David will be leading this hike. Please be on time, he will not wait for latecomers.

What to bring:
Hiking boots and water (required).
Snacks, a light lunch, etc.
Binoculars.
Toilet paper, tissues, plastic bags for garbage, etc.

Inclement Weather:
Precipitation will cancel this hike. Please check your inbox for updates and the NJYP.org calendar. Tickets will be refunded.

Directions:
Take Interstate Route 80 to Exit 37 (Hibernia/Rockaway) and bear left at the end of the ramp. Continue north on Green Pond Road (County Route 513) for 6.5 miles and turn right onto Upper Hibernia Road. (If coming from the north, you can take Route 23 to Green Pond Road, head south for 3.7 miles, and turn left onto Upper Hibernia Road.) Follow Upper Hibernia Road for 2.5 miles to the end of the paved portion of the road. Continue ahead for a short distance, turn left just past Brunache Road, and park in the wide gravel area.

Note you  must take the path that is already highlighted on the link above, the other roads are not accessible (dirt or abandoned roads)

Im not going to be able to make it....stuck in ny with car troubles...im so bummed. Im not having the best luck w the hikes Have fun!

Hey David - I just got my binoculars from REI.  Bought them with this hike in mind.  Can't wait to use them!

I like the idea of the hike extending to include a graveyard from 1860's mining era and civil war era. Awesome time in history.

FYI, there will be options to extend this hike to include a longer section including an old graveyard from the 1860's from the mining era.
