Eventbrite - Hike: Breakneck Ridge Day Trip

Member Cost:
$15 online
$30 at the door (so please register online)

Non-Member Cost:
$30 online and at the door

Hike Leader:
David will be leading this hike. David will not be waiting for late people. In fairness to those who arrive on time, the hike will start on time.

Specs:
Difficulty level is 4.75, http://www.njyp.org/page/hike-ratings
Expect a steep, rocky ridge with a lot of elevation gain in a short distance.
Although it is safe for hiking, you should be confident of your abilities.
8.7 miles long, taking about 6 hours.
As with all hikes you must be in good, athletic shape. This is NOT suitable for beginners.

Sweeper:
If the group size is larger than 10, we are going to look for a volunteer to act as a sweeper.

What to bring:
Hiking boots and 3 liters of water are required.
Light snack or small lunch as it will be a long hike.
Also recommended is non cotton clothing. Cotton holds in moisture and will make you feel cold and soggy if you start sweating. This is especially important in cooler weather.

Inclement Weather:
Any precipitation the day of or night before will cancel this hike. Please check your inbox for updates. Tickets will be refunded.

Directions:
Take 287 North into New York State. Continue on 87 North (NY throughway) for 1.5 miles and take exit 15A. At the end of the ramp, make a left onto Rt. 17 North. Follow Rt. 17 North for 14.2 miles until you see signs for Rt. 6 East. Take Rt. 6 East for approx 9.5 miles until you cross the Bear Mountain Bridge (there will be 2 traffic circles, be careful to keep following Rt. 6). Once you cross the bridge, make a left onto Rt. 9D. Follow this for about 10.5 miles.

You will be close to the parking area when you go into a tunnel. Once you emerge from the tunnel, the trailhead will be on your left. The trailhead parking area is small so if you do not find parking, either:
1) go another 500+ feet and look for a spot by the side of the road on either side
2) go another 700 feet and find the large parking spot on the left. There will be much more room there.

Do not park dangerously or allow your car to be in the highway outside of the edge lines. You will either get clipped or a ticket. There is plenty of parking if you just drive the extra few hundred feet.

How to find the group:
We will meet at the trailhead right near the tunnel. Please read directions carefully.

Hey all - the directions link on the reminder email that went out this morning is wrong. I believe the one on this page is accurate.
