How did Hurricane Irene affect you and your town?

I was in Chicago and left a conference early to try to beat the storm. There I was at the airport @ the gate, ready to board, and then they cancelled the flight. This was Friday night. Continental didn't want their planes to be at Newark so they wouldn't get damaged. I was so irate!!!!  Myself and five other strangers who were equally as irate rented an suv and drove 14 hours back to Nj. It was the craziest thing I've ever done. I rarely talk to strangers, let alone get in a car with them. The trip turned out to be so much fun and now I have 5 new friends. Even though I was cramped in the back seat, it was the most I've laughed in a long time. Shout out to the Chicago 6!
I forgot to mention that my town had flash flooding and many people had to evacuate. I'm so thankful i live at the top of a large hill.

My only problem was that my cable/internet went out!  No power issues at all.  I got in to work fine Monday too.

I had to leave my place in Somerville near Peters Brook / Exchange Field on Saturday and wasn't able to get home until Monday morning.  Many neighborhoods in Somerville are very badly damaged ... luckily I don't have a basement and I didn't suffer anything other than inconvenience.

We're in Somerville.  We've been without power since noon on Sunday.  No flooding at least!
